Great win 9-6 over E-style last night. Big night from Julia who beat Matt West twice and Johnny who went 2-2. If we can beat this team (granted without Bhoy and Sam Higgins in the lineup), then we can beat any and every team -- including Woodstock this week. The strange thing is that we haven't all played well on the same night yet this season. When we do, we can finally have a win of over 10 games.

7 Velvet Fingers
We edged out the Velvet Fingers with big nights from Micky Denise Han and Johnny Magyaros, who beat "Ether" -- one of their highest-ranked players. Ether was upset with a foul that I didn't call on Johnny. I didn't see any foul. Even if it was, he had a pretty easy table to run out of only four balls. He elected to re-rack and then Johnny kicked his ass after a pretty good timeout (pat myself on the back). The decisive 8th game was an 8-ball runout against Pabi and Ether by Enda Yo Life and I. Enda hit two spectacular shots to give me really good shape to finish. I'm really happy that 8 ball dropped. Jeremy played well except for a few shots against Jumie, but got no love from the JR table. Greg lost one but held onto most of his points. I went 2 for 3 and went up 8 points. June/Micky had a big night, Enda had a big night, probably deserved to beat Pabi, and Johnny had a big night (although he blew an 8 ball -- hit them softer, team).
All in all, a great win. Next week is Estyle or Woodstock, can't remember and soon we will reschedule with the Wonky Triangles and get our team ranking up!!

9 to 6 Bless U v Dolce Vita
Jim Dewey's team is a lot of what's good and right about this IPL. Fun night. Our team didn't play so hot but an ugly win is better than a loss.
We have to makeup our game against the Wonky Triangles because I'm sick of seeing a "-" in our score.

In case you didn't know already, we are doing a Ladder at RAndy's. We have been thinking about starting a 9 ball league and Jeremy suggested doing a ladder and I think it's a fucking great idea. So here we are doing it. If the link above doesn't work please copy and paste the following code into your browser and register. We have six players as of writing this. Cash and alcohol prizes.

This week, G-Love (all g-loves are off!) will be travelling to dolce vita to make it brutta vita. See you all Wednesday. All consider going to the Bulldog Sunday tournaments. They are really fun and you hone your game playing all those sharks.

Bless U Players are Rude!!! Oh yeah, baby. We are making a name for ourselves boys and girls. Let me welcome Julia to the team. It's nice to have a high 1800s-player added to the team. She plays well. I have seen her play before and watching her last night know that she is the real deal. Now we have two awesome female players. She's class. A great addition to an already great team.
Last night was some sloppy play (3 losses of game from 8-ball scratches, I jumped one 8 off the table like a dipshit -- oops!) and yet we still did really well as a team. I love that about our team. Anybody can have a shit night and not harm the overall score too much. We keep grinding away wins, even after beginning 4-1 down. Grit. Meddle. Quality.
In a personal way, the other team wasn't the best sports. They called a phantom foul against Enda. He whiffed the ball and didn't touch it and they were sure he did. So sure they took ball in hand even though Jeremy the referee said it wasn't. After they won that doubles game they didn't even acknowledge that there was any funny business. I just don't like some teams that much. Who cares what I think? The funny thing was that the overweight one told Enda that we are rude. We let them have ball and hand they didn't deserve and got called rude, lol. The witch isn't aware of irony. What can you do?
The positives:
Johnny! Julia!
The unluckies:
Micky! Enda! Ralph!
The invisible:
Jeremy (what's new?)
The Good Chi:
Yu Yang
Next week we are home again! Home sweet home against the other Scrooge Team!

G-Love starting to roll
the Pain 6
G-Love 9
Pretty good win last week. I think everybody is kind of rounding into form now and we should get on a little bit of a roll even though we are about to play some good teams soon. I would really love to beat Woodstock this year. Greg will miss two weeks to sun his ass in Malaysia -- that lucky bastard. Maybe we can get Andy or someone to sub one week, i think Andy likes playing against Woodstock Rocks.
Jeremy and I are going to have a side bet of who can get more Special Games. My Break n Run last week doesn't count in this bet. So we start at 0-0.
Anybody else want to make some side bets?

New Tab: Technical Shit
I know some of you G-Lovers are computer-illiterate so please look up an inch or two and see the tabs that say "HOME", "PHOTOS", "Schedule", and now (the all new) "Technical Shit". I think some of this stuff can be very helpful. And if anybody wants to practice with me just come down to RAndy's. Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday are the quietest days and best for practicing.

Dirt, baby, dirt.
The more I play the more I feel like playing defense is really a key part of the game. I watch Greg go seamlessly from offense to defense and kick the shit out of good and bad players with that system. I've been telling Enda that I want to practice my dirt this season and stumbled on a good video of a defensive drill to practice with two players. Anybody interested?

Phillies Pheasants 3
We had a commanding 12-3 win tonight. Honestly, we could have stolen another game or two but we struggled through a game here and there. Check out the standings to see where we are, again near the top of the heap.
Greg continued to play really well tonight, starting another season undefeated after a few weeks. Let's not jinx him (he sucks). He is ranked 12th right now. It won't be long before he's in the top 10 where he belongs.
Micky had a nice ending to the night. She played totally dominating in her last two games. Jeremy and Enda both played well. Jeremy took an 8-ball run and made a long, tedious game in his first but still won all his games. Enda and his new eyes played very well, but goddamn, man, clean your cue sometimes! I continued to miss easy shots but played defense enough to win all three. I love the dirt. Johnny had a bit of a rough night, falling into a poison shot on the 8 and scratching on it.
The Pheasants are a cool team. I enjoyed watching Mike play pool and thought they were a really cool group of guys. Another reminder of what is very good about the IPL.
Technical Bullshit
Here's an instructional clip by Mika Immonen that explains the basics of stun, draw, and follow--all you really need to run-out a table. Even if you have all three shots at your disposal it's a pretty cool clip just to see how much action he gets. If you feel like you don't have three very good shots, work on it. Personally, I'm still working on my draw. I'm much better at using follow to get around the table. Also, when I first learned to play, Dan and Greg taught me how to stun the ball. I used to play pretty good games, running 4 or 5 balls at a time with only center ball over and over again. I think we sometimes get too cute with draw and other bullshit--I know I do. I usually miss shots when I try to force the cue ball to do something it doesn't really want to do.

Schedule Fall 2012
New Season!
Check the "iTeam Schedule" tab to see our 2012 schedule.
This season Arno is going to play with the other Bless U team, incidentally. We still have a very good team as long as everybody plays well. We have added Jibe Causse to the team, go ahead and become his facebook friend if you want. Adding him is a huge advantage for us because he is actually More French than Arno is, and only teams with French players can truly do well in IPL (or anything, for that matter).
Our schedule is pretty close to last season's. We have a few tough teams in the mix. There's nothing like last season's woodstock, loft, loft, wonky quadrangles stretch but there are some good teams mixed in sporadically.
I'll see everyone tonight. I will probably be going to Itaewon quite early, at around 4 or 5.

iTeam wins first Playoff Game
Me with the worst Referee in IPL |
Velvet 8-3.
Ooooh Yeah!
We played a great match. The Velvet Fingers are a good team. All the players are good and iTeam did good to handle them. Enda is becoming our secret weapon. He beat Dewey, Arno, and Stevie after the match. He won his singles too. Micky played great and closed out the night with the 8th and final win. Arno let JB win -- some French conspiracy -- but Jeremy won both his singles, I won both (one 8 ball run^^). Johnny would have won both games but he fouled with a push shot. Remember if the ball is close you have to hit low and stay low to bring the cue ball back or it is a double hit and foul. Hit that low and keep your head down and hit it with conviction.
Next up is Estyle. We want to get Arno v. Bhoy, Me v. Matt, and Enda v. Sam. We have to play smart. Aggressive when there are chances and patient when there's no run-out.

Finishing on a High Note
We finished the season strong! Beating Wild Hogs was fun and standing up in the Sin Bin 10-5 was a good way to close out the season. We played well: June had another great night, and even with Arno having a rare shit night and Greg and Jeremy out we still won easily. We seemed to have solved our doubles problems too. We play regular well and we have good teams now. Greg/Jeremy is very good. June/Jeremy and June/Ralph is very good. Enda/Ralph is very good. Arno/Johnny is very good. 2LS/Johnny is very good. The playoffs start on Sunday. Let's meet at Bless U at 6.30 and watch the end of the other Bless U games before starting our match. It looks like we play the Velvet Fingers. We should handle them but they are no pushovers. Great job iTeam on an awesome regular season. Let's keep it up in the playoffs. I'm drunk and this taxi driver is absolute shit -- he is over seventy and keeps insisting he is sevenTEEN. I want to grow up like that.

Also, next season we are changing our name to one of the following:

Preview: 3AP
Tonight is 3AP. The table has been re-felted. Greg, Johnny, Yo Yang, Enda and I all played there in previous seasons so the atmosphere shouldn't give us too much trouble. I like Albert and Bernie a lot. It should be a pretty fun night. I know Johnny really wants to win! That whole team plays well but Johan and Rod are there only really good players. We have Arno and Greg (are they pros?) to counter them and still have a lot of firepower after that.
Can we win doubles?
I am still not sure what doubles pairings work the best for iTeam (name to be changed to Eight Ball in the Hole). Feel free to post any ideas in the comments below or to tell me by phone or in person.
Best Doubles Pairings:
Johnny / Arno
Ralph / Enda
Jeremy / Micky

Preview: iTeam vs. Shava
This week it's Seoul Pub Shava which would be a pretty easy match if we were playing anywhere but at Seoul Pub. That table can do some mysterious things. I like the name of the other team quite a bit and think of King Shava as something of a role-model. See some info about him below.
King Shava
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
King Shava was the adopted father of Bahuka, as mentioned in the Mahabarata.
He had multiple wives and mistresses, and according to folktale he had 1301 children. He married his youngest wife after she was rejected by his son Bahuka. He loved his youngest queen the most because they both had similar low, gruffy voices. In some accounts they spoke with the same voice. He stood eight feet tall and had multi-colored hair.
iTeam gets Triangulated
Last week was a somewhat disappointing loss. We're kind of in a team slump. I never like losing, but if we have to lose this is the time and way to do it. We are a good team and have proven we can play with anybody. I think the Wonky Triangles were more supportive of each other, i mean they clap their heads of after every single shot -- like it is the Mosconi Cup. They have some good players and no shit players but we are the same way. Last week we kind of got down on ourselves after the second round. This week, we can set the ship right again and blaze into the sunset.

We played a close match. A few games definitely could have gone our way. We had them in the palm of our hand but let them slip away. I think we need to work on our doubles. I would like to organize a team pool night one sunday before the playoffs start where we all play with each other and see who the best doubles pairings are. Right now I like Jeremy/June, Ralph/Enda, Greg/Arno for our playoff top three. I like Arno/Allen and Arno/Johnny and Johnny/Allen as well. Tell me your thoughts. Overall, we are doing well in this tough stretch -- pretty far from embarrassing ourselves. Word around the campfire is that some of the other teams say we suck and we're overrated and shit like that. Little by little we are proving those motherfuckers wrong.
Some interesting stats:

Some interesting stats:
- We have been involved in seven "special games" in thirty games played, which comes in at 23% of the time or just short of one every four games.
- In the last three weeks we won twenty games and lost twenty-five.
- we only won three out of the last nine doubles matches (that's where are struggles are)
- i have been involved in 4 special games in my last six matches (three went against me!)
- In a side note, Stevie has been cheating by using house cues that already know the tables, lol (from Ogier News
The Dewey Song Pool Tournament
If people are interested, let's do a Saturday or Sunday pool tournament where the winners donate all winnings to Dewey Song for his mounting medical bills.
I would like to host it at RAndy's Bar. I have a great system for putting the brackets up on the TV screen so you can follow the action. I was thinking 20,000 per person. Like most tournaments, all the money will go to Dewey.
I suggest next Sunday, if possible (Johnny, can you bring your Bulldogs my way for a week?). Other days can be arranged.

Johnny had a monster night, going 3 for 3. Greg had a monster night and Jeremy as well. Arno played well, until doubles ㅋㅋ and June won a somewhat ugly game. Me, I was a non-factor. I got to learn to put on the hex like Johnny does. Great team win. iTeam is the best team in the league to play on.
The guy that really impressed me on Steel is Yeong Seok. He's really good. Even in 5-9 after the match he was shooting lights out. Really cool to watch him play.
THE BET
Jeremy 1795
Johnny 1769
Ralph 1752
i knew i would fall from grace. I hate being in first place. All you can do is fall^^
Congrats to Stevie from Boomtown Rats for passing Dewey, taking the all time points lead, and shattering the 2100 glass-ceiling.

Week No. 13 - iTeam gets a worm
Woodstock Rocks 9
Bless U. iTeam 6
Rough night.
We took our first loss of the season tonight at the hands of Woodstock Rocks. After a dismal 1 to 5 beginning to the match we only lost 6-9. We won five of the last nine and outplayed them at the end. For example, Allen and Johnny held a doubles clinic, beating Woo handily. Unfortunately, the hole we dug for ourselves was too deep and got muddy from our self-prostrating tears. Arno was undefeated but only played one game. I think I did a shitty job as captain. I didn't get my head on me until the second round, which was too late. There's just something about Woodstock that brings me down. Maybe it's the blaring music, maybe it's the vampire-like darkness, maybe it's the third pool light hanging as low as a third testicle. We always struggle there, and we did again. Greg, Me, Jun, Jeremy and Johnny all had a rough time in the first round. Yo Yang beat Woo in the first game of the second round and from then on we played better than they did. Too late.
On the other side Emily went 3 for 3, taking Greg down twice and beating Yo Yang and I in doubles with Willy the Magician (does anyone remember the playoff game with him blasting his last ball past my 8-ball that was totally blocking the pocket?). Willy is one accurate motherfucker and Emily is on a lucky (err, hot) streak! She is 6 for 6 with one special game.
Like I said, we always struggle against this team. They are our kryptonite. The good news is if we win the division we will play them at home where we most certainly have an advantage. Hey, at least we played a match this week. Not like last week with the Cacti.
The Bet:
Ralph 1780
Jeremy 1776 (very american number)
Johnny 1713
Next week is Loft Still at Bless U. Happy to be back to the warmth and light of home. It's going to be another rough night of pool but we're ready now. We get to see just how good they really are.

Week 11
I'd like to Buy one of Greg's Fancy Shmancy Cues |
Kick Ash 5
They played a fucking good match against us. Irina really played well. She kicked my sorry ass in game one (so much for 1800!) and then took out Johnny in game 2. Also, she's pregnant and her rack is massive.I guess it always was, so it's massiver. Pregnant women are said to have "the glow". Maybe the glow is just big titties. Anyway. I digress.
The tough part of the schedule is about to begin. Now we find out what we are really made of. Tofu?
Peter Roxburgh told me tonight that he hasn't seen a team as good as Loft Steel (or did he say Styx?) since joining the Itaewon Pool League in 1854.
Anyway, June had her first singles loss since pre-Historic times and Kyle is still doling out money to get new players. Good segue-way? I got all hot and sweaty carrying Dewey's Balls around all day. Johnny likes Pussy. He said pussy about 30 times tonight. He really got a kick out of it. His new nickname is Corner Pocket Rocket Johnny, side-pocket Johnny is no more. Or just call him "the Hex" -- cause he helped me win two games with balls in hands before the 8s. Arno was undefeated. He's from France. He likes Sartre and can memorize a whole chess match in his head. Greg was undefeated till the doubles. Greg and I played on the King Bar dead rail table last season and still managed to let the rail beat us time and again in tonight's match. Maybe we should do Hot Yoga or something to work on our flexibility. I just can't believe what stubborn cunts we are. Enda had a better night than last week against Dolce Vita -- Enda Yo Life!! That's a great nickname. Johnny calls him Edna. That's a girl's name.
THE BET
The Bet remains about the same. Some say Stevie is leaving Boomtown Rats. Is that related? I have to work on my Segue-ways? Trans Fats may not be as harmful as previously thought. They will open the Kennedy Assassination files to the public in 2025, 13 years to go.
- Ralph 1795 (Sucka can't stay over 1800)
- Jeremy 1753 (Sucka stuck in Donutland)
- Johnny 1727 (Sucka lost to Irina when he could have gained mad points)
See the whole team's rankings and stuff below.

I'm still in a little big of shock of how much trouble it takes some people to understand the idea of alternate breaks, who elected these morons captain?
And they are seriously paying players for a fun amateur league? Give me a fucking break! Sublime sucks. I don't care how much people sing along. They still suck. Fuck them.
If anyone has any ideas to make the league better or Wednesday's more fun, tell me and I'll suggest them at the next Captain's Meeting.
Okay, it's 11:02 a.m. and I haven't been to bed yet. Peter Roxburgh is the devil. Like you didn't know.
It kind of looks like he knows what the fuck he's talking about. Yeah Right! |
Some shithead named Killa wrote his name on the whiteboard during league night. That cracked us up. Killa.

Week Ten 합격!
iTeam 10 - 5 Dolce Vita
Great night. I thought that sweet life had a good chance against us and we hung in there and played well enough for an important 10-5 win over Jim Dewey's team. There are a few really good shooters on that team. Im falling asleep i typed tea instead of team. "They have a really good tea!" I'll check in tomorrow. I'm blogging using the phone now, which is a pain.
On the computer now. There's no "i" in team, except on iTeam.
June has been playing abso-fucking-luba-toosy great week in and week out. Her streak came to an end at 10 - fantastic! Greg has flattened out but is still leading the team, playing a solid lead-off game every match. One more hot-streak and he'll be over 1900 again. He's definitely one of the top 10 players in the IPL (sex change or not, 'scuse me?). We had Enda Yo Life play again last night. I really enjoyed the doubles game with him. We had a tough shot and just picked up the cue ball and handed it to them. They then went on to have a massive brain freeze and shit all over themselves. The funny thing is that I ended up with a slightly easier version of the shot that Enda didn't want to shoot, the shot that made us hand them the cue ball, the move that deconstructed them psychologically. It's amazing how the average IPL player crumbles when directly challenged.
Johnny "Side Pocket" just missed an 8-ball run is his first game. He shot out the first 7 and had a decent leave for an 8-ball cut-shot into the corner pocket but flubbed it. I guess he was thinking about the run. I am often guilty of that. He went 2 out of 3 and lost around 9 points on the night. That's the chess rating system applied to pool for you. He also had to take about 20 shots at the left-side pocket last night, making about 15 of them. Thus he is dubbed Johnny Side Pocket.
Frustrating night for Arno, but he still managed to go 2 for 3. That's the sign of a really good player. He won the first singles on strong mental play and I'm really not sure how he and Johnny won the doubles. One thing I noticed last night is Jumi "Tequila Jo" really played badly. I remember her being really quite good. I don't know if she just had a bad night or really isn't as good anymore.
I practiced like dog shit. I couldn't make a single ball and then went on to be totally confident and make every hard shot I was given, weaving through Tom Vu's defense with not a worry in the world (I love nights like that!). I heard Enda saying "Quality" in my second singles game as the cue ball rolled into fine shape for the 8 after blasting a long corner-pocket shot with lots of spin on the cue-ball. I finally passed 1800. In terms of "the Bet" I'm on top by about 50 points right now. Anybody want to up the ante, Jeremy? I know that Johnny does. He was saying so last night. Anybody else want to make side bets?
Bonuses/Penalties
I made a little poll on the right sidebar for you to vote YES or NO on the issue. It it right under the slide show of photos.
Money tournament coming up. Who's going to play?
Side Note:
I have .avi files of an instructional pool series called the Encyclopedia of Pool Shots (I-V). If you would like them, just give me a memory stick and I'll copy them and bring them for you (You will need some memory). I really recommend them. They are entertaining, smart, and useful. It covers simple things like hitting massive draw to tougher concepts like banking/kicking systems. There's an important section on defense and some other cool things. You can see clips on youtube.com but watching the whole thing is more useful and makes you want to go and practice.

Week #10 Preview
We are playing Sweet Life Dolce Vita or Vice Versa. It's a dumb redundant name anyway like calling ourselves Bless U. Te Bendiga. I didn't even like Bless U. Santa Mierda cause too much blessing and holiness. Anyway, iTeam isn't that hot either. B Team would have been better. or A Team. or Team.
Anyway. It seems my memory functions okay because I haven't heard any complaints about last week's score sheet.
The Funghis?
THE BET:
Johnny is catching Jeremy! I sniffed 1800 then lost my doubles game.

SIDE NEWS:
It was posted on IPL's Facebook pagehttp://www.facebook.com/groups/5419118089/ that one of the players from tonight's team steals cell phones and even stole a teammates phone, so heads up.THE BET:

Mistakes, Bonuses, and Penalties
If anyone sees any glaring mistakes on the score sheet please tell me and i'll correct it. I'm really not 100% sure about everything. I thought IPL would update but I ended up doing by memory (not a strong suit) on Friday. For example, I can't remember for the life of me which token white guy on the team is Jeff "Gretsky" and which is Scott. I think Scott shaves his head and Jeff is on the good-looking side but a little gawky, but it could be reversed.
We had a blog for the Santa Mierda team and it had a Bonuses & Penalties Section. Looking back on it, it was actually pretty cool. It would have fined Johnny on Wednesday for missing the 8-ball hanging in the pocket. It would have punished Arno for playing a game over 21 minutes long (Johnny too^^) and it would have punished all of us who lost a game. It also would have given Arno a bit of money from each player for the Special Game. If you're interested in implementing these ideas for iTeam just tell me. Even if you're not, check them out and see the result for the Santa Mierda season. Pretty Funny!
