Because of the bye we did a tournament in RAndy's Bar last night. It was pretty fun. Personally, I like playing scotch doubles more. I think we should do a blind draw scotch doubles tournament next time. I'm really happy that Johnny, Arno, and June came out. This Bless you team is awesome. I think we have a really good chance of going far this season^^
We got 11 points for the bye, which is pretty cool cause it's fucking high. Our average right now is 10.5 every week (not bad). Next week we play at home, finally! No more small shitty tables.
Tournament Results (not that it really matters much)
First Place: Ralph "il Maestro" Chiaia (i know, home field advantage -- blah blah -- but then Andy should have won too
Second Place: Chris "Mad Dog" Larsen (yes, "en," it's a Norwegian thing)
Third Place: Johnny Magyaros
The Draw looked something like this:

Week #6 - Buongiorno Arno
Holy Fucking Arno! Buongiorno, Arno! A break and run and an 8-ball run in one night -- pretty spectacular.
Bless U iTeam: 11
Phillies Pleasants: 4
This week was pretty cool even though it sucked (huh?). It was Jesse's last week in Korea and on the team which sucks. Not only did he have an awesome night and go out in style, he really fits in with us mavericks. Jesse's 3 for 3 solidifies his ranking over 1700. Pretty cool way to go. Wish he was staying.
Arno, Arno, Arno. What can you say? He played near-flawlessly and deserved to be 3 for 3 with two special games instead of 2 for 3 with two special games. His eight-ball bank in the first game ended in a clear "nothing but net" cue ball into the corner pocket. Unlucky.
Johnny had a 3 for 3 night and seems to be back on his game. Jeremy, June, and Ralph looked better on the score sheet than on the pool table. Each of us had our moments, but critical mistakes at critical times cost us games we would win 9 out of 10 times. Such is life. We made some people very happy by giving our ranking points away. And the Pleasants happen to be a really cool team. Good peoples, as Johnny likes to say.
The Ratings:
The Ratings were built for chess and not pool. It's a little jacked up when Arno goes 2 out of 3 and loses 20 points. I think it can easily be adjusted. I've heard the suggestion that each special game is +7 points automatically (and a break and run results in no loss of points for the opposing player). I think this will even it out a little bit so that when a player ranked high steps to the table against a player ranked low, there will be more of an upside. In addition, a player ranked low will feel better about not losing any points when "I didn't even shoot a ball."
Next week:
We have a bye week so we will hold a tournament at RAndy's. I'd like to do an 8-ball tournament followed by a scotch doubles tournament. For those of you who haven't been to my bar, there's a map on the blog with directions. If you get lost just call me.
The Bet:
1st place: Jeremy 1753
2nd place: Ralph 1741
3rd place: Johnny 1706
Bless U iTeam: 11
Phillies Pleasants: 4

We play Phillies Pheasants at Phillies
Here's iTeam schedule, if you want to check it.
Seyberts:
I ordered stuff for us: a new jump/break for Jeremy, a Pool Case for Arno, a Cue Holder for Johnny, a new towel (i love the O-ring) for myself. I wanted to buy Jesse a magic rack but it won't be here in time. After ordering a little glitch came up. I am shipping the order to Jeremy and he found out shortly after the order that he may be sent to Japan for six weeks. It's not as inconvenient as it sounds because the overseas shipping--at lowest rates--will take about a month anyway, so we may have to wait an extra two weeks. Jeremy's plans have changed at least two times already in the last week, so the result remains to be seen. The good news for our stuff is that even if he is in Japan our stuff is safe.
Practice at Bless U before Phillies? Another night on a small table. I prefer playing at Bless U so much.

Week #5 -- iTeam v. Zion
iTeam : 10
Zion : 5
iTeam pulls up from this match in 4th place
We didn't quite whip Zion's ass as hard as i would have liked. To me smacking their asses around with a cat o' nine tails or a riding crop would have been more appropriate, but they actually played some good games. Jeremy found out that they weren't total pushovers in game one. Ralph, that's me FYI, had to play a game that looked like fucking straight pool and did all this hard work up picking out one ball at a time plus playing safes and deliberate misses, to set up a straight-in-the-corner 8-ball from no more than a foot away and missed. Luckily I (Ralph) won that game later on a much harder 8. Unfortunately Jeremy got disgusted with his second game and had to wake up at 4 a.m. so he left and let me play doubles (which i always lose) so that was another loss and the end of my 8 game winning streak. Shit. Arno played really great. As always. He should be 1900. I think he's the most underrated player in IPL. Johnny had a good first win and should have won the doubles aside from a bad offense off his cue and a bad defense off mine. I think mine was the one that cost us the game. June was playing great until Jagermeister caught up with her but she still managed a perfect night. And Jesse dominated. He had a really good night, going undefeated and having a lucky rabbit's foot injected up his asshole the whole night. I wonder how it got there. 2LS took a heartbreaking first loss, after playing a whole sequence of great shots, but pulled out the next two games. His ranking should be in the high 1600s in no time at all. All in all, I'd say this was a good match -- especially as Greg looks at Castles in Ireland. Is that what he's doing? Drinking?
Other Team News:
Nobber's team lost their first match of the season. They have a really decent team and have even added Ginger Lewis.
Stevie from the Boomtown Rats is ranked so high that three wins last night got him all of seven points. The rest of us get more points than that going two out of three. Reaching the Dewey high-water mark of 2098 is going to be tougher than I thought.
Loft Still beat Loft Styx pretty good 10-5. They say "Zeus" is a God, a machine. I don't think I've ever seen him play.
In Other Itaewon news:
The Egyptain sandwich sucks. Nothing like the sublime sandwich of perfection made by Moroccan Simon. Unfortunately he is back in Morocco and his brother Mustafa is neither as nice nor as good at making that sandwich. What a shame! Everything I love in Korea disappears. I swear that Costco has placed a chip in my eye without my knowing and they watch what I pull from the shelves and then pull it from their shelves indefinitely. Sundried tomatoes, the whole pepper shaker that comes with grinder top, real dill pickles, the green olives with pimiento that actually have taste, Optimum Nutrition's cereals, etc....

Week #5 - Preview
Tonight the iTeam plays against Zion. Greg is not playing and Jeremy is on the IR. I'm trying to get Andy "the best Doubles Partner Ever" Lu to play in his stead. Feel free to send him a message and beg him to play.
There's a rumor going around that Tex missed his flight.
Tonight Loft Steal plays Loft Styx in battle of the bad names. iTeam probably wins the bad name moniker, lol. We really should all wear black turtlenecks but we all sweat all the time even in T-shirts.

the Photos and some Hot Streaks
Greg potting a really tough kick-shot |
Now Stevie has six special games -- pretty wild. Greg says Stevie is playing like a pro and I have to agree. Greg is playing pretty awesome as well. He is undefeated this season and Stevie and Greg sit atop the streaks list. Greg is going to Ireland for a few weeks so we will see how we do without him. He really is the perfect lead-off player. I hope he stays this hot when he comes back. Maybe he has a shot at hitting 2000.

Week #4 - iTeam v. Pink Panthers
Another big win for iTeam: 11-4.
iTeam 11
Pink Panthers 4
Greg took some really nice photos last night which we will post really soon. Arno had another big night, making some really tough shots. June and I won our first doubles together and I found out that men aren't the only ones who struggle playing women. Women struggle playing women too. How bizarre!
Greg has won 11 straight games and lifted his ranking to 1902. Arno looks like he can get to the 1900 plateau as well. Ralph and Jeremy and Johnny are hoping to get to the 1800s as soon as possible as well. Whoever of the three ends the highest will be paid 50,000 from each of the other two^^
We are still waiting for Andy "The Best Doubles Partner Ever" Lu to play his first game of the season. At RAndy's he keeps winning the round-robin-format-just-for-shits-and-giggles games we have been keeping score of. We play best out of 3 scotch doubles and then change partners until everyone has played with everyone. Each player on the winning team gets one point when your team wins the 2 out of 3. Andy had 5 points last night and Jeremy and I had 3. Taek (who also hasn't played a game for iTeam yet) had 1. Apparently the Ralph/Jeremy team sucks.
In other news, Bless U Boomtown Rats beat Woodstock Rocks 9-6 which is a big win. Stevie has 5 special games already and is ranked an incredible 2062. Dewey's high-water mark of 90,098 -- i mean, err, 2098, is in jeopardy. Holy fucking cow! Tex, who was going to play on iTeam went 0-3 including a game that was a table run-out until he scratched the cue-ball when he made the 8 ball. He's leaving on Valentine's Day (that's February 14th, Andy!). What a way to go out.
I'm still waiting for the score from Nobber's team. They have won the first three weeks. It took them 18 weeks to get their first win last season. Big improvement.

Week #3
Another win for Bless-U iTeam 12-3. June S. Han is now on the team -- we finally got a chick and are very happy she's playing with us (that doesn't sound right!). Also, Bill "CantDoKnow" Huang played last night. Hopefully he'll play some more.
The team is really dominating the first round of play. The second round has been a little softer in the middle but we kept the pressure on tonight. Nice win.
They say 2LS is talking gay less and the Captain apologized to June for all the lewd and inappropriate things he will say over the next 20 weeks.
It would be cool if somebody took some photos next week to put on the site.
